Sokoban is a classic puzzle game dating back over three decades, and a plethora of games have taken inspiration from it. Its apparent simplicity is what attracts the players in the first place, but the insane difficulty level is what keeps them playing. With enough levels at your disposal, you should be able to keep yourself busy for a very long time.

Sokoban for Windows does not try to dazzle you with looks and features, but it does have the ability to exterminate the notion of spare time. Hence, it comes with thousands of levels available for your pleasure, ranging from almost facile, to downright impossible and frustrating. Regardless of which ones you choose to tackle, there should be enough of them never to need another Sokoban game.

The levels are split into categories, each one of which has a certain theme or author. It may take a while to figure out the classification, but if you are familiar with the game as a concept, then it shouldn’t matter who made them, as long as they provide you with a challenge. Thankfully, most of them are more than capable to cause early onset baldness, especially if you are not the type to give up easily.

Another interesting feature is the fact that you can change the game’s appearance completely at the click of a button, by accessing all the different skins included in the package. Not all of them are very pretty, but some can make the entire experience feel entirely different. The timeline controls allow you to undo moves and basically try every possible move without having to restart the whole level.

Speaking of which, the visual quality is not exactly top-notch, since it’s nothing more than a couple of low-res textures and a few basic animations. The different skins make it more bearable, but the graphics are not very important anyway, given the fact that your primary concern are the puzzles. A nice soundtrack keeps things lighthearted at all times.

While it does have some design flaws, Sokoban for Windows can actually be your go-to puzzle game for a very long time. You can always change things up by toying with different skins.
