The point-and-click adventure genre may prove to be a little too slow-paced for some people, but the rewards are generally worth the trouble. Solving intricate mysteries and coming up with clever solutions to the situations you find yourself into is always a rush, especially if the game in question succeeds in creating a proper atmosphere and provides you with a suitable environment.
Remedy is about as true to the genre as it can get, which means that most of your time is spent clicking on things and trying to figure out how to unravel the numerous mysteries that await you. The action takes place somewhere in Sweden, although the actual environments are much more restrained and you usually find yourself shuffling through apartments, or various other such locations.
Story-wise, the events follow Carol, a girl who decides to investigate a number of curious cases and use her skills to come up with solutions to the puzzles that plague the city. The game provides you with a few clues regarding her history, but the focus remains on the actual mysteries and the detective work she puts into solving them as fast as possible.
The gameplay revolves around exploring the locations and finding certain objects, some of which can be used in other purposes, or to unlock the path to the next clue. You can pick up items and carry them around until you stumble into a situation that require them, which is practically the classic way an adventure game works. However, you may sometimes feel like you are pixel hunting, since these objects can be quite difficult to spot at times.
Visually, the game uses photographs to render the environment, but you are free to explore the locations by switching between views. It can be a little disorienting at first, but you quickly get the hang of it after a few minutes of gameplay. The photographs are edited to look a bit more surreal, but not so much as to make you forget the purpose of the game.
In the end, Remedy can be a tad too mellow for most people, but the experience is rather nice overall. There are no major epiphanies along the way and nothing is liable to blow your mind, so only approach this if you are on the lookout for something relaxing to do when you get a bit of free time.
