Monster trucks are built exclusively for fun and ludicrous activities, because they are in no way fit to be driven on any actual roads. Instead, they are mostly used in stunt shows and demolition derbies, where the big wheels and massive engines clearly make a difference. However, it’s not very simple to make proper use of them, unless you are a very experienced driver.

Monster Truck Stunt Rally is a relaxing game in which you get the chance to drive a monster truck and have as much fun with it as you want. There are no actual rules or restrictions, except for the occasional fence that stops you from falling off the map. In essence, the goal is to push the car to its limits and see whether you have what it takes to perform daring stunts without destroying the vehicle in the process.

To begin with, you are allowed to choose multiple tracks from a list, although it turns out that they are actually just different starting points on the same map. It shouldn’t matter too much, though, especially since it’s nice to have a large environment at your disposal and not be confined to a tight space. On the other hand, you quickly learn everything there is to know about the map, so boredom might be a factor.

The gameplay can appear to be a bit aimless and disorienting at first, because you also have the option to race from checkpoint to checkpoint as fast as you can. There’s nothing stopping you from going off script and just enjoying the ramps, on the other hand. The handling tries to be realistic and convincing, but this is definitely not a simulator, no matter how you look at it.

Not much can be said about the graphics engine either, because it’s rather plain and unimpressive. The environments are dull and featureless in most parts, while the vehicles do not feel massive at all, although that may be because they are RC models. However, you can at least enjoy juicy explosions whenever you hit an obstacle too hard, because the truck can break into little pieces if you mistreat it.

All things considered, Monster Truck Stunt Rally is far from a complete game, and it feels really unpolished most of the time. Still, it is possible to have a good time playing it, at least if you are not expecting an awful lot from the experience.
