Lumen is a simple and beautiful puzzle game for OS X and Windows. And this you will like... The objective is to light up checkpoints by bouncing, coloring, and maneuvering a laser beam through obstacles. Although puzzles may seem easy at first sight, they can be quite a challenge.
The careful attention to detail and the colorful graphics make Lumen a joy to play. Lumen is just a small sample of what Fiery Ferret can do. Having Fiery Ferret develop an application for you or your business can be easier and more affordable than you might think. Contact us to find out just how easy.
Playing Lumen
To play Lumen you must first load a puzzle by clicking on the "Load Puzzle" button at the top of the window. This will bring up the Puzzle Selector palette. Here you can retrieve puzzles from the online database, or from a local cache on your computer. Once a puzzle has been
loaded, use the pieces to the left to "activate" all the checkpoints on the board by directing a laser of the same color through it. First, pick a laser emitter and drag it onto the grid.
Laser emitters can only be placed on the outside edge of the board, and only one emitter can be placed at a time. Once the laser has been placed, use mirrors to bounce that beam to the checkpoints. Click on a mirror to rotate it. Next place filters on the grid to combine colors and activate differently colored checkpoints. To find out what color a checkpoint is, or to see what colors you must mix to make that color activate the "Show Color Hints" in the Help menu.
Making Puzzles
Lumen also includes the ability to make new puzzles and edit existing puzzles. To make a puzzle first click on the "Edit Mode" button at the top. The puzzle pieces will be revealed on the right of the window. Use these parts to construct your puzzle. While you make the puzzle, solve it at the same time with the solution pieces (mirrors, filters, and emitters) on the left to make certain it is possible.
After you have made a puzzle, you can save it to a file or submit it to the online database. Note that a puzzle must be solved before submitting online, to ensure that it is in fact possible. To make solution pieces part of your puzzle you can "lock" them by holding down shift while clicking on a solution piece. A locked piece is loaded with the puzzle and cannot be changed by the user.
