Play Canasta against the computer in this simple, but realistic card game with a lot of original features

editor's review

There are countless card games out there, each one of which is at least somewhat dependant on luck. Obviously, some require good teamwork and experience in order to be played properly, or at least enough confidence to trick the other players, as is the case with poker. However, it’s still a lot easier to win a hand at poker if you are dealt a royal flush, which is why luck is an important part of the equation.

Enjoy a match of Canasta against the computer

Hand Foot Canasta is a card game that allows you to play Canasta against an AI opponent, in order to practice your strategies and build up a bit of experience. The game is designed to come as close to the real thing as possible, which means that the decks are randomized and you can pretty much do everything you wish, as long as it is within the rules of the game.

If you are not familiar with Canasta, you should know that’s it’s very similar to Rummy, in the sense that you have to build melds with similar cards and play them for points. Each card has a specific value, so you have to keep track of these values in order to calculate the overall score. In the end, the player with the largest amount of points wins, as it is normal, although you must also succeed in playing every card from your hand first.

Basic interface and tricky controls for newcomers

Obviously, the rules of the game are a bit more complicated than that, especially when it comes to the way you can create melds. Thus, wildcards can be used to replace any card in a meld, not to mention the fact that you can also pick up the discarded pile, although you must wait for it to reach a certain size. In addition, there are overall statistics that keep track of your progress over multiple matches, in case you want to see if you are getting better.

Speaking of which, newcomers might find it a bit tricky to understand how the game works, because there are very few pointers to get you started. In essence, you have to be somewhat familiar with it in order to play, otherwise you won’t be able to understand how the scoring works, or how to create melds. In addition, the graphics are as simple as they can get, since there’s nothing else to look at except for the cards.

An accurate Canasta simulation for true fans

All things considered, Hand Foot Canasta should find itself a decent audience, although it certainly won’t appeal too much to newcomers. Hence, if you are well aware of how the game is played and you need a way to practice it by yourself, Hand Foot Canasta is the way to go.
