Chicken Invaders: Revenge of the Yolk Christmas Edition Demo

The Chicken Invaders series has been around for a very long time, which means that it had the possibility to evolve and be polished until now. Obviously, the concept was and has to remain relatively simple, but that doesn’t mean new features are not welcomed. As such, there is always room for a bit of improvement, as long as the gameplay remains the same.

Chicken Invaders: Revenge of the Yolk Christmas Edition is a special release in the franchise, which obviously takes place around Christmas, and it is meant to be played when the snow is falling outside. Hence, almost every bit of the game was decorated and slightly changed in order to portray the holiday spirit, which includes red Santa hats, snow, and various other such variations on the same theme.

However, the game itself is not different at all from what you experienced so far in the series. Thus, you still have to use your spaceship to shoot all the chickens trying to invade Earth. These chickens come in nicely arranged waves, although the formation and their attack patterns change on a regular basis, to make matters a bit more challenging. However, your weapons can be upgraded as well, to balance things out.

Just like in every other shoot ‘em up of this caliber, power-ups are an important part of the equation. In this case, they affect your weapon and ammunition, which means that there are multiple types of attacks you can opt for, depending on your preferences. Whether it’s the good old laser blast or a lightning bolt, you can always make things more interesting as you go along, although some weapons might be easier to handle than others.

The score is important as well, because you are rewarded for each point you manage to gain. Additional lives can be won this way, but you also get a place in the hall of fame, as long as you manage to score enough to make it past the other contenders. As far as the graphics are concerned, the hats and red shirts maybe new, but the engine is the same and there is nothing too flashy about it.

All things considered, Chicken Invaders: Revenge of the Yolk Christmas Edition is not a revolutionary game, but that’s not the point anyway. Instead, you are meant to enjoy the same experience, only in a much more holiday-friendly environment.
