Manic Digger

Manic Digger is a game that is very much like Minecraft when it comes to the core features. You are left in a procedurally generated world to dig for resources and build anything you can set your mind to.

Manic Digger allows players to dig and build whatever they want, whether it’s a gigantic cave or a vast kingdom, almost anything can be built. At first you are set into an empty and randomly generated world with not all that many options for building cubes so initial prospects will be low.

You can, however, import textures and objects into the game if you have the coding and modding skills available. It’s only after you are able to do so that Manic Digger actually becomes more enjoyable because by default, it has very little to offer when compared to other similar games.

Since it can get really lonely while mining all by yourself, you can create a server and have other people join in. The thing is, that in multiplayer, people can pick up one of four weapons, pistol, smg, shotgun and a sniper rifle and blast each other to pieces instead of peacefully building.

Now you can create battlefields, assume one of three roles and help your team conquer the enemy. Moreover, you can build a map or a structure with everybody that’s connected to the server and then switch to War mode without having to reconnect. It’s a nice feature to have since you won’t lose any time between destroying and repairing the arenas.

Manic Digger is a good choice for those who enjoy 3D block building games and its multiplayer mode certainly makes it more appealing. However, it does lack in the charm department, and at times, it really lags when it’s building the initial world.
