Blacklight: Retribution Client

Multiplayer shooters have come a long way over the years, especially since the graphics engines have evolved exponentially in the meantime as well. Thus, a lot more things are now possible to achieve, and they are slowly being integrated into the gameplay. However, another thing that has gained popularity lately is the free-to-play model, which is not everyone’s favorite, as it turns out.

Blacklight: Retribution is a multiplayer first-person shooter that follows the free-to-play model, and it aims to provide the players with a fast-paced experience set in a futuristic setting. Your goal is to defeat the enemy team at all costs and use the experience you gain from victories to improve your weapons and your character’s equipment. Naturally, it takes a while to unlock all the weapons, which might be a bit of a bother.

However, the game surprises with a hefty collection of different time modes, some of which are classic and undeniably popular, such as Deathmatch and Capture the Flag, while others are a bit more original and intriguing. As such, the Kill Confirmed mode only counts the frags after you pick up the dog tag from the fallen enemies, which means that the long range approach becomes a lot less viable.

In order for the experience to remain fun over long periods of time, the game needs to feature flexible and entertaining gameplay mechanics. Thankfully, Blacklight: Retribution seems to have what it takes to keep you invested in the action for a long time, even if the number of maps is not huge. The HUD, the weapons and the general controls inside the game are on point most of the time, so you can gradually get better at the game as you continue to play it more and more.

As far as the graphics are concerned, the game certainly looks like it belongs in the current generation, although it still has plenty of areas that need to be improved. While the textures and the special effects are quite impressive in most cases, you can stumble into glitches and animations that are not exactly pretty. However, these are rare cases and you can safely ignore them.

When it’s all said and done, Blacklight: Retribution still has some work to do in order to gain popularity and fix some of the issues it displays. On the other hand, it’s nice to see that someone tried to freshen up the genre a little bit, especially since everything people seem to know about today is Call of Duty and Battlefield.
