Xotic Demo

Xotic is a first-person shooter that’s also branded as an arcade game. It focuses on high scores more than anything else, in detriment to the story or more complex gameplay elements.

Not many developers have the courage to build a game around a concept that’s not based on a strong narrative or, at least, other motivations. Come to think of it, first person shooters that emphasize making high scores more than anything else are not all that popular, and they don’t tend to be remembered.

Xotic is an indie game, but you wouldn’t say that at first look. It based on a solid concept, but It’s rough around the edges. It’s the kind of game that would have benefited from a couple more years of development, but they probably wanted to have this on the market as soon as possible.

I said right from the start that Xotic is not based on a strong narrative, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not there. Something evil called the Orb has spread its influence around the planet, and you’ve have been tasked with the cleansing process.

To achieve this goal your using a strange weapon named Macroterra, that can more than just shoot. In certain situations, players can use Macroterra to fly for short durations, or to build some sort of translucent steps to get to higher ground. It’s a weird one. In any case, the goal is to finish the level as soon as possible, while gathering points from the level.

It’s not difficult to finish the game, but it’s difficult to finish it with a proper high score. This is the entire foundation of the game, so Xotic only has this going for it.

The developers from WXP Games say that the weapons and skills in the full game can be upgraded, and lots of various levels will be available for the enjoyment of users.

The engine used for the game does its job decently, but that’s actually high praise. It doesn’t look all that good, but the upside is that it also runs on low-end systems, so anyone with a five-year-old PC shouldn't have any issues with it.
