X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse Demo

The X-Men universe is populated by powerful mutants that are at their throats on a regular basis, but some events are more important than hatred and competition. Hence, in this long-awaited sequel, Xavier's team of special teenagers must join forces with Magneto and his crew, in order to avoid an apocalypse and save the Earth in the process.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse features the very same mechanics as the first title, which means that you get to play with entire teams at once, rather than a single character. Thus, you can easily switch between them whenever you need to use a specific ability, while also having an advantage in battle, due to the many combos that can be achieved when the mutants combine their strength.

The story revolves around the good old apocalypse, which is a combination of the one from the bible and a few other inspirations, all of which fuel the non-stop action and the sense of impending doom that presses upon you throughout the game. Hence, beside icon enemies from the X-Men universe, you also get to fight against the four horsemen of the apocalypse, as well as many other spawns from hell.

Although the characters are quite easy to control when the area is clear, they become very tricky to handle once they're in a fight, since the combat mechanics are a bit strange and unpolished. Thus, the attacks usually go in a straight line in front of the character, which means that you have to wait for the animation to be over in order to try again if you miss the target.

However, the environments and the actual characters are very nicely animated and modeled to look as they do in the comic book series, thanks to the cell-shading technology used by the graphic engine. Moreover, each character benefits from professional voice acting, which greatly improves the atmosphere and makes the rather silly dialogue be a bit easier to endure.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse can be quite fun and entertaining, although the sketchy mechanics and the somewhat forced storyline make it difficult to stick with it until the end. On the other hand, die-hard fans of the universe should be more than happy to control their favorite characters and help them save the world yet again.
