Woody Two-Legs: Attack of the Zombie Pirates Demo

Pirates are known for their habit to hoard treasure and bury it on remote islands, for whatever reasons. Another stereotype regarding the sea wolves is the fact that most of them seem unable to take proper care of their body parts, since they always lack an arm, a leg, or an eye. Hence, if you throw in some zombies in there as well, you may very well come up with the ultimate recipe for some action.

Woody Two-Legs: Attack of the Zombie Pirates is an attempt to create a unique blend of arcade action and tower defense mechanics, although the final result is a bit of a tasteless stew that ends up annoying you after a couple of minutes. There are many design mistakes that hurt the overall experience, as well as glaring gameplay flaws floating around in plain sight.

The background story talks about a cheeky pirate by the remarkable name of Woody Two-Legs, who happens to have two wooden legs. He finds a giant treasure chest in one of his adventures, so he proceeds to search for the nearby deserted island to bury it. However, it just so happens that the zombie pirates have risen in the meantime, and they all want a piece of Woody’s treasure.

Probably the most annoying factor you stumble into after you start playing is the gruesome control layout, which works against you at every step. Hence, you have to steer the ship using the WASD keys, while using the directional arrows to shoot projectiles at the vessels. This is highly counterintuitive and it severely hurts the gameplay experience, especially there’s no way to change this.

The rest of the game revolves around you defending the island from multiple waves of repetitive enemies, using various power-ups to gain special powers every now and again. At the end of each stage, a boss fight awaits and it usually poses a bit of a challenge. However, the controls make any kind of fun turn sour on you in an instant, not to mention the fact that there are very few levels to begin with.

In the end, Woody Two-Legs: Attack of the Zombie Pirates is not the type of experience you would want to subject yourself to, because nothing good or fun can come out of it. Thus, you’d be much better off doing something else instead, unless your idea of fun involves high blood pressure.
