Action movies always come up with new ideas, especially when it comes to creative ways to use a firearm. In Wanted, the Hollywood blockbuster, characters possessed a special ability that allowed them to curve the trajectory of the bullets as they flew through the air, making it extremely difficult for anyone to find cover.
Wanted: Weapons of Fate allows you to make use of the same mechanics and delivers an action-packed adventure for you to enjoy. Just like in the movie, your character is able to shoot around corners and perform some other daring acrobatics in his quest to become the best assassin the world has ever seen. Naturally, to get there, you need to take out a lot of bad guys in the process, using as much violence as possible.
As far as the story is concerned, the events pick up where the movie left off, with Wesley Gibson in the main role yet again. This time, since he achieved his revenge, Wesley decides to continue his ascension in the ranks of world-class assassins and take on the most dangerous missions available, each one of each involves incidents like mid-flight airplane shootouts, or various other risky and unlikely scenarios.
Since lots of bullets will be flying around at almost every step, you cannot just walk around and remain unscathed. Thus, some very refined cover system mechanics have been developed for the game, which allows you to transform basically every object from the environment into a shield against the rain of enemy bullets. Moreover, the system is layered, meaning that you get to perform some other actions while you're in cover as well, such as pushing the rolling cart that protects you further and further, in order to get closer to the enemies.
The curved bullet trajectories have been implemented too and they allow you to choose how the bullet will act every time you use the ability. However, this also means that you are required to take the time to properly aim and adjust the trajectory, which severely reduces the pace of the action. The skill is not even that effective, since most enemies require more than one shot to die and you have to kill enemies in order to gain more charges for the ability.
Unfortunately, Wanted: Weapons of Fate does not really manage to add anything useful to the genre, other than the rather useless curved bullets gimmick. Other than that, the story is barely present in the gameplay and the action quickly turns into a boring duck & shoot fest, which loses its charm after about 30 minutes of game time.
