Monsters have always fascinated people, even before fantasy stories became a thing. Hence, there are all sorts of legends and myths in every part of the world, and some of them got to be famous enough to be recognizable around the globe, such as vampires, werewolves and a few others. Naturally, there’s a lot of lore on how to kill them as well, since every story has a happy ending.

Walkerman is an interesting mix of role-playing elements and visual novel mechanics, although the whole thing is mostly concentrated around the story and your involvement in it. The goal is to learn about monsters and go after them, but the battle itself is very important as well. The battles have different outcomes depending on how you choose to approach them.

The story focuses on multiple characters rather than a single one, so each act follows the adventure of a one monster hunter. In essence, you have to do everything in your power to find out as much as you can about each monster, because the information is then used to battle them. However, don’t expect too much complexity in regards to the battle mechanics.

You also get to influence the personal life of the characters you play with, mainly through dialog and the choices you make in certain situations. Granted, the game is not long or complex enough to really form a deep connection with the characters, but even so, you can at least get in the proper mood. Having a bit of control over their fates can help with the atmosphere as well.

Lastly, the artwork is worthy of a mention as well, because it’s obvious that the artists have put quite a lot of work into it. There are many backgrounds to gaze at, and the characters are very nicely designed as well. The combat areas could use a bit more attention, on the other hand, although this part is not as important to the overall experience.

In the end, Walkerman might just be a very engaging game, especially since it features a nice combination of mechanics, as well as an intriguing story. However, it’s difficult to say more than that just from the demo, because the full game might be even better.
