Unreal Tournament 3 Demo

Many of today's games are powered by the Unreal engine, an engine that's mostly thanks to Epic Games' genius of focusing on the engine technology to be able to deliver impressive graphics and fast paced gameplay.

Unreal Tournament 3 is the first in the franchise that uses the third generation of the Unreal Engine and the last installment in the series, but let's take a closer look under the hood to see what novelties it brings in comparison with previous titles.

Unreal Tournament 3 takes you to the year 2307, a few years after the events in UT2003, and places you into the boots of a Ronin soldier named Reaper. Sent to defend the survivors of a colony suddenly attacked by the Necris and joined by skilled sniper Bishop, his second-in-command soldier Othello, and his sister Jester, Reaper will have to make some tough decisions that will almost kill him.

Knocked out by an incoming rocket, our hero wakes up in the base of the Izanagi army controlled by the Iron Guard leader Malcolm. With a sentiment of vengeance in his veins, Reaper will have to prove himself before having the chance to kill the leader of the Necris forces, Akasha.

While the single player campaign drifts away from the classic Tournament Grand Championship, the online multiplayer introduces several game modes that manage to improve upon UT2003's signature modes.

Besides the classic deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the flag, UT3 introduces a fresh new mode, which combines the well known Onslaught and Assault modes into a new one called Warfare which benefits from the same action packed vehicle-dominated war we saw in UT2004.

The new Warfare mode follows the same rules as Onslaught, but adds and Orb to each team that allows you to capture control points instantly. In addition to that, each soldier now caries a hoverboard that will also allow you to grapple onto any vehicle (including flying ones) and get an instant speed boost.

Apart from that, Vehicle CTF, Betrayal, and Greed also add up to the list of game modes, making UT3 incredibly fun when playing online with or against your friends.

Weapons in Unreal Tournament have always been brutal and unforgiving, and now you can get your hands on an arsenal that comes with even bigger and badder models.

When it comes to vehicles, you will have to choose between two factions, the Axon and the Necris, each with a wide range of controllable machines that can do all sorts of crazy stuff.

Jump onto the saddle of the Viper and slice enemies with its energy shuriken attack or get behind the controls of the Fury and wreak havoc between enemy lines with its four death-beams, and experience tons of multiplayer fun.

Unreal Tournament 3 manages to offer many action-packed matches, dramatic scenes and moments of mad heroics, when you'll find yourself charging towards the enemy's position while dodging bullets and flying on your hoverboard.

Bottom line, UT3 does a great job to improve upon the features introduced in UT2004, while managing to keep the same addictive competitive gameplay experience.
