Universe at War: Earth Assault Demo

Whenever movies depict the invasion of Earth by some alien forces, humans always get some sort of fighting chance, despite their inferior technology and lack of knowledge. However, the game at hand does not make that assumption and barely takes the human race into consideration when two powerful extraterrestrial races decide to make the planet their battleground.

Universe at War: Earth Assault is a real-time strategy game that presents the war between two powerful alien races and the humanity's struggle to survive it. However, the situation changes when a third race enters the conflict, one that happenes to be laying dormant under the Earth's oceans. Naturally, they turn out to be helpful and they join the war on Earth's side, while trying to exterminate the invaders.

The three races that are part of the conflict are Hierarchy, the ones who plan to mine the planet dry and move on forward, Novus, which only want to destroy Hierarchy, and Masari, the ancient aliens that resided on Earth for thousands of years. Humans are also playable from time to time, but they are very weak compared to the other races and they barely make a difference on the battlefield.

As far as the actual gameplay is concerned, everything revolves around your ability to raise an army and use it to defeat the enemy forces. Naturally, you also have to build a base and spend the resources into researching better technology and upgrading your own troops. However, the game comes with a few differences as well, since it is also possible to change your tactics and your units on the go and use another approach by simply opting for different upgrades and technology.

There are heroes and special units as well, which can change the outcome of a battle by themselves and make the entire army perform better. In order to depict the large-scale wars and the advanced technology used by the aliens, the game uses a very potent graphics engine, which is quite capable of rendering massive units, detailed environments and decent special effects to go along with the battles.

While Universe at War: Earth Assault may not exactly revolutionize the genre, it does bring a few good ideas to the table and it makes the most out of the interesting scenario. However, the gameplay is rather dull and no matter how big and powerful the units may look, they are not that impressive out on the battlefield.
