Unity of Command: Stalingrad Campaign Demo
The second World War has been revisited and documented countless times ever since it happened, especially when it comes to the most famous confrontations out there. Hence, everyone knows about the Battle of the Bulge, or the great Stalingrad confrontation that almost decided the result of the entire war.
Play with both the Soviets and the Germans
Unity of Command: Stalingrad Campaign is a wargame that, as the name clearly gives it away, deals with the battle of Stalingrad and it allows you to witness the conflict with both sides. Hence, you have the opportunity to walk away victorious as Nazi Germany and probably change the outcome of the war, or play as the Soviets and respect history, at least if you win.
The game is very straightforward and much more simplified than your regular wargame, especially when it comes to interface and the actual gameplay mechanics. Hence, you do not really have to worry about much, other than moving your troops as efficiently as possible, watching out for supply routes, and coming with the right tactics in order to win the scenarios.
Play the campaigns, or enjoy single scenarios
In order to fully appreciate the immensity of the confrontation, you must play both campaigns from one end to the other. Naturally, each campaign is composed out of multiple scenarios, but you can also just choose the mission you are most interested in and enjoy it separately. While this might take away a bit of the atmosphere, it certainly provides you with the same amount of tactical depth and plenty of strategic options.
The simplicity extends to the graphics as well, which almost look cartoony and childish in a way. Regardless of the chosen color scheme, the visuals are smooth and on-point most of the time, and they certainly do not hurt the atmosphere. The same goes for the sound effects and the background music, which help a lot with the overall mood.
A short, but very intense experience
All things considered, Unity of Command: Stalingrad Campaign is certainly a title worthy of a try, especially if you enjoy strategy games. In addition, the simplicity makes it a good choice even for beginners, although there’s enough tactical depth lying underneath it to make the game attractive for slightly more hardcore players as well.
