Tower defense games are designed to be both simple and complex at the same time, which is quite the difficult compromise to achieve. In essence, the gameplay mechanics must be simple and fast-paced, while the actual action has to put your reflexes to the test. It’s also important to emphasize on strategy and the placement of the towers.

Turret Architect is an apparently simple video game that challenges you to do everything yourself, including the monster spawning. There’s nothing to push your limits in regards to reflexes, on the other hand, since the goal is to design the perfect blend of towers and monsters. However, the maps get bigger as you advance, so your strategies must adapt as well.

To begin with, you have enough gold to build a turret and start earning gold, although your character can also shoot the monsters himself. Obviously, the damage he deals is quite low, so the turrets must come into play as quickly as possible. After that, turrets become the main component, and they can be upgraded over and over again to keep up with the action.

You also have to keep in mind the fact that the spawners require energy to run, and you have to build pools that replenish every now and again. This energy is then spent by clicking on the monster creators, but you have to obtain the perfect combination between all of your spawners. The location of every building is important as well, especially after the map gets bigger and monsters spawn all around it.

As for the graphics, they are about as simple as they can get, but that’s not a problem if you enjoy the mechanics. In fact, all the things you have to keep an eye on keep you distracted from the modest visual quality, which is a good thing. The sound effects are nothing to write home about either, but they matter even less than the graphics in this case.

All things considered, Turret Architect is not a particularly impressive video game, but it has the necessary components to keep you engaged for a long time. Granted, it gets repetitive after a while, but it keeps you coming back time and again.
