Every culture and religion has its own view on mortality and what happens after one passes from this life, but there is no way to be certain of either, at least as of now anyway. Interesting experiments were conceived throughout the ages, but probably the most powerful views into the afterlife are the fictional ones, mustered by writers or movie directors in order to share their ideas.
Train of Afterlife is a visual novel that takes a stab at the subject, by presenting you with a pretty interesting story about what happens in the afterlife and whether people have any say in how to spend eternity. Most of the gameplay is centered around dialogue and the exploration of a rather limited environments, but the plot arches nicely and you can get into it after you manage to swallow some cheesy cliches.
As it happens, you wake up in a strange train after supposedly dying, although you have no memory of your name, or even if you are a boy or a girl. There are other people with you in the train, which provide you with some insight on where you might be. As it turns out, the afterlife train should take you to a special place, although it is a different place for everyone and no one knows how long the trip would take.
In certain key points of the plot, you are given the choice to go one way or the other, depending on your preferences. They do not make a huge difference, but they are vital when it comes to making you feel like what you say matters. The dialogue can go multiple ways as well, but then again, do not expect radical changes with different answers, because you will be disappointed.
Graphically, the game is basically more of a slideshow, since there are no animations, 3D models, or anything else that might constitute a proper game. The artwork is pretty powerful and well-made, however, especially if you are a fan of the anime culture and you do not mind an exaggerated haircut here and there.
Overall, Train of Afterlife might not feature the most well-written plot or the best dialogue out there, but it certainly tried very hard to provide the players with a unique experience. There are some interesting concepts flying around, as well as a couple of intriguing characters to interact with over the course of your journey.
