Trains may be a rather old invention, but they are still used all over the world for the transportation of both goods and passengers. The technology has evolved a lot in the meantime as well, as is the case with the high-speed rails in Japan or France, or the Maglev in Germany and Japan. Whether you like them or not, it would appear that they are here to stay.
Train Valley is a puzzle game with sandbox elements, in which you have to figure out how to connect cities with railroad and carefully manage the trains that travel between them. The task is certainly not as simple as it sounds, because there are many factors you have to take into account, such as junctions, collisions, and the time it takes for one train to finish its route.
There are multiple scenarios to play through, and they get significantly more difficult as you manage to pass them. The first couple of missions provide you with tips and a bit guidance, while the actual puzzles are not very tough to crack either. Later on, on the other hand, you are left on your own, with only your wits and patience to get you through the challenges.
As mentioned before, you can manually control the trains. This means that you can stop, start and reverse them in order to make sure that there are no collisions out on the track. You are also in charge of making sure that the switches lead the trains to the correct destinations. The faster your trains get to the towns they are headed to, the more money you are rewarded for your trouble.
Speaking of which, money is the cornerstone of your success. It takes cash to build railroad tiles, so you really need to pay attention to each patch you place. Most of the time, the goal is to obtain a certain profit, so it is important for you to carefully manage each dollar that leaves your account. After you get used to the interface and with the fact that each train needs your personal input, it should get easier to obtain a profit.
Although Train Valley can be rather stiff sometimes, the game is still very fun to play, thanks to the exciting puzzles. It should be that much more attractive to train lovers, although you shouldn’t expect any kind of emphasis on actual train engines.
