Just like in real life, most video games may be complex and challenging, but the underlying goal is to avoid death for as long as possible in order to see how everything turns out in the end. There are usually all sorts of traps you have to avoid along the way, not to mention the fact that everyone wants to murder you at first sight. Hence, you might wonder what it would be like if your goal was the opposite of survival.
Think To Die 2 is a fun puzzle-platformer in which you have to make use of the environmental traps in order to kill off your character. However, this is much tougher to achieve than in your regular platformer, so you actually have to put some effort into your suicide. On the other hand, it’s quite the enjoyable experience, especially since you are forced to think out of the box.
Naturally, the game is a sequel, so it learned a lot from the first episode. There are many more ways to reach your demise in this one, and the levels are a bit more engaging as well. Whether you have to jump into spikes or stand under a falling block, most solutions require a bit of tinkering, which is why you might not be able to see them at first.
Another interesting addition is the fact that you have to kill multiple characters during certain levels, but not before you use them to cooperate in order to move objects around and activate switches. You really have to think about it a bit before you go and kill one of the characters, otherwise a level restart might be necessary in order to start over and get everything right.
As for the graphics, they are certainly nothing to write home about, but they are not ugly either. Sometimes it might be difficult to make out the character’s outline because of the post-processing effects and shadows that are too dark, but there are no major issues in this regard. The music is not bad either, but don’t expect anything memorable, especially since it gets repetitive.
In the end, Think To Die 2 maintains the tradition established by the first title and adds a bit more variety to the formula, but the overall product still needs a bit of work. However, it’s certainly challenging, so it should be good fun for puzzle aficionados everywhere.
