Whatever your opinion on the afterlife or various paranormal events might be, certain places just look creepy, regardless of whether they are haunted or not. Hearing scary stories about them doesn’t help either, even if you doubt they are true, so it’s actually just as exciting to explore abandoned buildings whether you fear the spirits or not.

The Wisbey Mystery is a hidden object adventure game in which you get to play a part in a horrifying experience and solve a mystery while you are at it as well. Don’t expect genuine horror elements, on the other hand, because the action is kept as lighthearted as possible. Thus, most of your time is spent analyzing the environment and using the items you find in order to solve puzzles.

The story revolves around a creepy manor that’s supposedly haunted, given the fact that most locals refuse to go near it or speak of it too much. This is pretty common in rural places, but things get a bit more serious when a journalist who goes there to investigate the property disappears. Hence, you play the role of the investigator who comes to find out more about the disappearance and maybe unravel the manor’s mystery as well.

As you might already know, the genre does not usually feature difficult gameplay mechanics, so the puzzles are fairly straightforward most of the time. It might take you a while to figure out which item goes where, but then again you can always just try everything, because there are not that many possibilities anyway. You can also use the hint system to see what you should be doing next.

Lastly, the graphics are actually very engaging and moody, mainly because the textures are photorealistic and somewhat grungy. It’s a great way to create a pressing atmosphere, but then again you have to live with the fact that everything is static and rather boring sometimes. Thankfully, at least the soundtrack and the environmental effects maintain the atmosphere throughout the adventure.

When it’s all said and done, The Wisbey Mystery may not revolutionize the genre, but it features a decent story and great artwork that creates a nice atmosphere. Hence, it should be more than enough to creep you out a little bit.
