The Wild Eight Demo

Survival games can profit a lot from a few sandbox elements, especially since they allow the developers to provide the players with almost endless possibilities. This is how Minecraft started, after all, since the whole purpose of the game was for the players to quickly build a rudimentary shelter before nightfall, in order to escape the monsters that appeared.

The Wild Eight is a top-down survival game in which you play the role of a plane crash survivor trying to find some kind of escape from a frozen forest full of dangers. There are a few sandbox elements included as well, given the fact that you can use resources to build shelters and even craft various items. On the other hand, the game is not as complex as other survival sims out there.

The story starts with a plane crash that leaves only a few survivors. They might not be as lucky as they think, on the other hand, because the crash happens somewhere above Alaska. Not only that, but the forest they have to survive in is also haunted by all sorts of monsters and evil spirits, which adds even more danger to the equation. Thus, it should be quite a challenge survive here for longer than a few days.

The first thing you have to worry about is having a shelter, because that’s the place where you can research new tech. After that, it’s important to have a fire at all times, because the cold kills you in a matter of minutes. Granted, you can start one anywhere if you have enough resources, which is perfect if you find yourself far from the shelter when the night starts.

One thing that’s pretty impressive about the game is the visual quality, because although there are no high-end technologies involved, everything looks quite nice. The atmosphere is just right as well, which is a combination of level design, post-processing and music. Speaking of which, the soundtrack is quite nice as well, although it needs more content when the full game is released.

All things considered, The Wild Eight is quite exciting even in this pre-Alpha state, which means that the final game should be even more fun. However, there are still some bugs and inconveniences that need to be fixed, not to mention the fact that the whole resource gathering gimmick is a joke at the moment.
