The Universim

The Universim is a new kind of take on god-games. In this title you don’t just get to take care of a town or a growing city, you get to use your powers to influence and guide the population of an entire planet. It’s a micro-planet, but a planet nonetheless.

Please note that the demo provided here is actually more of a prototype of what the game is. It’s an early build that was meant for testing but since the developers have had crazy success with The Universim’s crowd funding campaign, they’ve decided to share a bit of what the game actually feels like. So that’s what this is, a ‘sit back and observe’ kind of thing.

You can’t really do anything but explore the little planet and see the complexity of it all. On the same floating sphere you get what appear to be neanderthals, villages and even a metropolis whose inhabitants seem to have already reached the space exploration era. This is an obvious hint that you’ll be taking care of your people right from the stone age, and up until the point where they will start to colonize other planets to spread the gospel that you preach, or escape your evil ways.

Visually, what the prototype offers is pretty good but since this is an early build, you can expect, and rest assured that the final product will look just great.

There are plenty of details to lose yourself in and as you explore, more seem to pop up. People can be seen tending to their livestock, gathering wood or just standing around near a campfire. Planes fly about, rocket ships begin their voyage into the unknown and thunderstorms appear right out of nowhere. There’s a lot going on.

The game’s focus is to be fun and immersive while still tough enough to make you feel that the life of a god is anything but simple. You will be able to use your god powers to shape the trajectory of a civilization but the AI will do what it wants in a lot of cases and you won’t really be prepared for it.

Apart from success, you’ll witness plagues, riots, alien visits and other kinds of random events in which quick thinking can save the day. There’s not much to do in this demo, except collect a few easter eggs but it is enough to highlight the fact that once released, this game will be a really good treat for sim fans and not only.
