The Space Garden Demo

Growing things is an important part of human life, regardless of whether it’s a child, a pet or a plant. Civilization evolved to this point because people stopped being nomads and settled down, in great part thanks to agriculture and the fact that we have ready access to food whenever we want, without the risk of being mauled by our potential dinner.

The Space Garden is a very interesting game concept in which you have to plant all sorts of trees and bushes in order to collect their fruits and acquire currency. It’s not a complex formula, but it’s very nicely integrated, not to mention the fact that it evolves pretty smoothly over the course of the game. In fact, it feels a lot like a clicker game in certain regards, especially after the learning phase is over.

In essence, each tree or bush has a certain number of fruits, which have to grow and fall down in order to be picked and turned into hard currency. This is pretty simple when all you have is two or three sources of income, but it becomes a lot more annoying when you always have to keep clicking. To solve this problem, you can purchase certain creatures that collect the fruit for you instead.

You can even add life to your planet, not to mention the fact that the scale increases as you manage to evolve. Thus, you can zoom in and out of the solar system after you reach a certain point, which allows you to get a better look at the planet and how everything is arranged. There’s not a lot you can change after the fact, but at least you can get an idea on how to continue.

The graphics are nothing to write home about, although the pixel artwork is pretty neat, but everything goes really well together as a whole. The landscapes become rather ugly if you decide to zoom in too much, but that’s to be expected when the resolution is so low. The music and the sound effects are decent as well, which adds an extra layer of fun to the whole thing.

Even if The Space Garden plays a lot like a clicker game, there are certain elements that make it feel unique. Hence, if you want to see more of it and perhaps a much more engaging single player mode, you can support the developer by voting for the game on Steam Greenlight.
