Aliens are portrayed very similar to humans most of the time, sporting two legs, eyes, an opposable thumb and the like. However, they could also be entirely different and barely have anything in common with people, given the fact that they have evolved in a different galaxy, with different conditions and environments.
The Maw is a curious little game featuring an alien by the name of Frank as the main character, with another alien as his sidekick. While the main character is played by you and comes about as close to a human as possible, his partner looks like something taken out of a nightmare, if nightmares had pink monsters in them, with hundreds of teeth to devour their prey.
As such, the story talks about a fugitive rebel who takes an alien abomination under his protection, for whatever reason. The monster goes by the name of The Maw and it has the ability to practically eat anything, although it prefers fluffy creatures that scream when chewed. The Maw is also indestructible and immortal, so things are not looking very good for anything sporting a soft fur or cuddly eyes.
Obviously, the game is not to be taken very seriously and it doesn’t try to appear more than it actually is either. Hence, all you have to do is find food for the pink giant and watch him grow with every bite he takes. You can also feed him unique creatures that provide The Maw with special powers, such as fire breath and the like, which can be of great help in your quest.
Even if the game came out quite a few years ago, the graphics quality is still pretty decent, as long as you do not expect too much out of it. The bright colors should appeal to the younger audience, although the theme might prove to be a tad too dark for children to enjoy it. Regardless of that, a jolly soundtrack is constantly keeping things casual, so they don’t get too creepy.
All things considered, you can easily get lost a few hours in The Maw, as long as you have a sense of humor about it. The environments are quite creative and there are plenty of fun missions you get to go on if you’ve got the patience for it.
