The Legacy: Forgotten Gates Collector's Edition

Many of the world’s greatest civilizations ended up in ruins, whether because of internal turmoil, or because other nations destroyed them over the course of countless wars. However, most of them left some kind of legacy behind, especially if they excelled at architecture or engineering. Everyone is aware of the great Egyptian pyramids, but there are other examples as well.

The Legacy: Forgotten Gates is a casual adventure game with hidden object elements and a mystery for you to solve, although you can also tackle various puzzles along the way. The whole action takes place in a parallel world where the Mayan civilization continued to thrive and got more advanced over time, although for some reason mostly everything is still made out of stone.

You play the role of Diana, a girl who is working in a museum when she somehow gets transported to this weird world. Her task is to get back home, but there are plenty of unanswered questions she must deal with beforehand. Thankfully, she can speak the Mayan dialect well enough to have conversations with the locals, so the quest is not as difficult as it could have been.

The puzzles you have to tackle along the way are somewhat tougher to handle than in most hidden object games out there, which is a good thing. It’s great to really sit and think about a solution instead of randomly clicking to get the right pattern, and The Legacy: Forgotten Gates contains a lot more actual riddles. Granted, the hidden object sequences can get a tad too repetitive, but it depends on your mood.

As for the graphics, they are about as enjoyable as they can get in the genre, especially when you consider the fact that they are basically 2D backgrounds hand-drawn with as much detail as possible. You can zoom into certain areas to get a better look at various containers or objects, and those too are incredibly detailed. There’s voice acting and some environmental effects to help with the mood.

The Legacy: Forgotten Gates has the advantage of being able to put you in a pickle every now and again, which is more than what can be said about most HOPAs. Hence, if you are not afraid of some challenging puzzles, this can easily keep  you busy for a few hours.
