Out of all the point and click games that have delighted me so far, The Inner World is one of the best I’ve played and can happily recommend. It’s a wonderfully humorous, hand-crafted game that takes you on a captivating adventure through a very unusual and wondrous world.
I’ve had my share of poorly written games, or those that feature voice acting that was below average. Right from the start The Inner World brought a glimmer of hope that said that this one will actually be good. I kept my skepticism throughout the first minutes thinking that it can’t be this good but needless to say, the game kept delivering excellent voice acting. Moreover, that was wonderfully complimented by the whimsical and clever writing.
One of The Inner World’s best features is its charming humor that seems naive and childish at first but takes on several nuances that only grownups can fully understand. That alone makes the game an excellent choice for parents who want to introduce their kids to a smart and fun game while still being very appropriate and even more amusing to grownups.
There’s a bit of sadness to the main plot to the game. In The Inner World, you enter the world of Asposia, a place that exists in a strange world that’s slowly dying. Thanks to that marvelous thing called destiny, and its forces that don’t mind their business, Robert, the most unlikeliest of heroes steps up to save the day, probably. What The Inner World is about might surprise you because it’s impossible for a game of this quality to have a generic plot.
Nonetheless, Robert is the naive little fella that you will have to guide through several hours of adventure, conversation, more adventure, and loads of whimsical conversation. In case you were wondering, there are puzzles too. How else would this be a point and click?
As far as the latter goes, The Inner World will tickle your funny bone all while refreshing your brain. How else would you describe a puzzle that involves creating a slingshot out of someone’s abandoned crutches and a drunk worm, which you got into that state.
What’s Asporororo? Heh, find out. To end, play The Inner World demo, and then get The Inner World. It might seem a bit pricy, even though it’s far from it considering how good the humor is and how much of an experience it is. Not convinced? Watch the clip below?
