The middle ages were not very peaceful, due to the crusades and the many other conflicts that scarred the lands of Europe and the Orient. Because of that, the times were tough and it was rather difficult to survive, especially if you didn't have a drop of nobility blood coursing through your veins and you were forced to find a menial job somewhere.

The Guild 2 is a role-playing game that allows you to experience the medieval times for yourself and try to make the best out of your talents. By employing a blend of RPG and economical simulator, the game aims to provide you with complete freedom when it comes to choosing the preferred course of action, as well as the desired profession.

In the beginning, you get to create a character and customize its every aspect, starting from sex, appearance and even the zodiac sign, as well as slightly more advanced features that have an influence on the gameplay, such as specific talents and skill points. Beside basic abilities like stealth and constitution, it is also possible to excel in the art of rhetoric, empathy and bargaining, depending on what you are planning to do for the rest of the game.

After you are done customizing your alter-ego, you can jump straight into the game and start making a name for yourself. While the story is more or less absent, there are plenty of things to do out in the city, although you can also just explore it for a while and get familiar with it. A lot of people roam the streets, each one of which is busy doing something or going somewhere. Soon, you will have to find a job yourself, if you want to afford food and a place to stay.

Naturally, there are many jobs you can do, but it is also possible to become a rather important man and be respected by the community, or even become a noble and leave a dynasty behind to carry your legacy. However, you can just become a thief instead and prey on the weak, although the law is always watching and you can get into big trouble for stealing. Alchemist, craftsman and sword maker, they are all viable professions and you can slowly build a reputation throughout the city as being either a hard worker, or a lowlife bandit that must be avoided.

The Guild 2 tries to bring a few new ideas to the genre, by encouraging personal choice and complete freedom when it comes to gameplay. However, the lack of content may cause the game to get quite repetitive after a while, especially if you happen to keep the same job for too long.
