Life as a college student is not exactly easy, given the fact that it can be quite confusing and the future never seems to be particularly bright. However, by dedicating enough time to both studying and relaxation, things become clearer and everyone seems to find a purpose. Friends are also important, because they can inspire you and even provide you with advice when you need it the most.

Spend an entire summer on a farm

The Flower Shop: Summer In Fairbrook tells the story of a laidback college student by the name of Steve, who finds himself at the end of the semester, after the last exam, thinking about how to spend his summer vacation. However, things get out of control quite quickly, because his girlfriend leaves him and his father decides to send him live with an uncle at a farm, in order to build character and learn how life really works.

In essence, the game is a visual novel with dating sim elements, although a lot of emphasis is put on the farming aspect as well. Hence, Steven soon finds out that he owns a piece of land and he is able to raise plants on it, which can be sold. Thus, he opens up a shop, where he can sell products and meet new girls, or try to fix the relationship with his ex-girlfriend.

Good graphics and plenty of different endings

Dialogue is important as well, because everything you say can affect the way other people see you and the relationship between you and them. There are four girls you can try to romance along the way, including your ex-girlfriend. However, if you lack the necessary skills, Steve can also end up alone, although you can at least become a professional farmer by the end.

Just like most of the other visual novel games, the artwork is oriental-inspired, in the sense that the characters are drawn in an anime-style fashion and they also borrow some of the same mannerisms. However, the story itself takes place in the US, so the two do not really go well together. Imagination is the key, though, so it might not be a big problem after all.

A satisfying experience to enjoy on lazy afternoons

The Flower Shop: Summer In Fairbrook does have a rather childish story and the dialogue is not very mature either, but the overall atmosphere is quite cozy and relaxed. Hence, if you’ve got nothing better to do in a weekend, you can certainly give this title a go and have a bit of fun with it.
