The Collapse Demo

It’s never a bad idea to show your support and admiration for particular games, but it’s in bad taste to borrow everything from other creations. Hence, nobody gets mad if you happen to enjoy a certain gameplay mechanic and include it in your own game. On the other hand, you must bring your own original ideas to the mix as well.

The Collapse is a multiplayer FPS designed to look strikingly close to Unreal Tournament, with similar game modes and even the same models for weapons and players. However, the game lacks optimization, and it gets pretty difficult to enjoy the repetitive maps after a while, especially since the level design is lackluster and you can stumble into a wide variety of bugs and glitches.

From the moment you start the game, you are welcomed by a very familiar main menu, and you wouldn’t guess this is a different game. Everything looks exactly like it does in Unreal Tournament 3, so you might get a little confused at first. However, even the actual game uses the same models for most objects, which means that there’s not much difference from the original.

The Collapse features a few different game modes to choose from, including Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. On the other hand, there is only one map, so you do not really get to enjoy too much of the game. Not only that, but the selection of weapons is rather poor, which means that the action gets boring in a hurry. Thankfully, there are vehicles to enjoy, even if they do not really make sense in the big picture.

Visually, this is still Unreal Engine 3, so the models and the shading are definitely amazingly looking. On the other hand, the developers seem to have included a lot of bugs with the package as well, which means that you might stumble into a variety of glitches. What’s worse is that the level design is atrocious, and there is nothing to do on the map included with the demo.

All things considered, The Collapse has a lot of issues that need to be resolved. The plethora of bugs and inconveniences are not welcomed in a fast-paced multiplayer game. Moreover, the game borrows too many elements from Unreal Tournament to be considered original.
