Tanks of Freedom

Tanks of Freedom is a nifty indie title that comes to wipe away the tediousness of casual games. It’s a real-time strategy game that focuses on tactical gameplay, and it’s nicely wrapped in isometric pixel art.

In the world of casual games, the real-time strategy genre is poorly represented. Or at least it was until Tanks of Freedom came along with its super cute design, intuitive gameplay and surprisingly vivid nuance of difficulty.

It looks good, with all of its 16 colors (no sarcasm there), isometric view, nicely crafted environment and handful of units. At its core, Tanks of Freedom is a very simple game that doesn’t really bring out the strategist in you but it’s very relaxing and fun to play.

In ToF, you have to do one thing to win, meaningly take over the enemy HQ. Depending on the map you play, you have all the units available or only certain ones. At first you start with barracks units and if you manage to occupy special buildings you can purchase new ones.

Tanks, helicopters, rocket launchers, all are available if you have the right amount of cash. The financial aspect of Tanks of Freedom is simple and straightforward; the more buildings you have under your control, the more you make.

What’s nice about Tanks of Freedom is that unit movement costs you money. So would moving your army in real life, so that’s, in fact, a very nice touch to the game.

To wrap it up, Tanks of Freedom is a good choice for those who enjoy turn-based games and have a few minutes to spare. It’s still in development so some things might feel like they’re missing but even in this stage it’s worth playing.
