World domination might sound like the dream of a villain, but maybe peace can also be one of the reasons behind such an endeavor. Getting all the nations on Earth to join together and work toward a singular goal would be a very difficult task, though, since different cultures, traditions and customs may not function well in such situations, not to mention the fact that people feel the need to be unique.
Supreme Ruler 2010 is a grand strategy game that allows you to basically toy around with concepts like economy, war and politics, just to see what happens and whether you have the makings of a leader or not. The freedom of choice is quite extensive, thus giving you the opportunity to put your wildest dreams into practice and watch them crumble under the crushing weight of reality.
There are multiple scenarios to choose from, each one of which tackles a different issue and centers on a specific region from around the world. In some of them, acquiring resources for the country in question is the top-most objective, while in others you have to push the boundaries of technology and keep up with other nations that do the same. The difficulty level varies depending on the chosen scenario, but it is very well balanced once you start the actual game.
The user interface can be very difficult to implement and design for a grand strategy game of this caliber, but the developers managed to get it right from the first try. It’s not what one might call simple, but after going through the tutorial and playing one or two scenarios, you quickly learn that everything is easy to reach and functional. Whether you are a beginner or a hardened fan of the genre, an intuitive interface is always good news.
Do not take it the wrong way, though, because the game does not lack depth and there are always new things to discover and features that gradually become more attractive the longer you play. There are plenty of things you can influence and you have a say in almost every aspect concerning diplomacy, politics, economy and even military operations.
To tie things up, it must be mentioned that there are some less-than-pleasant things holding Supreme Ruler 2010 back as well, the most annoying of which is the short duration of the scenarios, aka time frames. However, the game is very polished and good nonetheless, which means that you should definitely give it a shot if you consider yourself a connoisseur of the genre in question.
