Throughout the long history of zombies and other undead creatures, their main purpose in books, movies and video games was to act as an easy plot generator and cannon fodder, since no one would think twice about whether it's wrong to kill something that, technically, is already dead. However, someone came up with the idea to tell the story from the opposite perspective as well, with a zombie in the main role.
Stubbs the Zombie turns the table a full 180 degrees and puts you in the rotting carcass of a zombie by the name of Stubbs, who rises from his grave and starts taking over the world, in an attempt to get some well-deserved revenge. Thus, by infecting other people, devouring brain matter and improvising a curious arsenal out of stuff he finds laying around and obsolete parts of his body, Stubbs slowly makes his way through a futuristic city riddled with robots, tall buildings and hover cars.
The plot involves a bit of background story on the main character, who gets killed by his sweetheart's father and left to die a miserable death out on in the woods. Many years later, when a city is built over the area, Stubbs makes a comeback and begins biting and infecting everyone around him, thus creating a decently-sized army to fight by his side. After an unintelligible, but hilarious speech to his new troops, the zombie hero begins the quest for revenge on everyone who wronged him.
Since zombies are not very well known for their exquisite limb coordination, Stubbs must use alternative ways to dispatch with the enemies. Most of the time, the weapons you employ are crude inventions that are mostly rigged to explode, but you also get to use some spare parts of Stubbs' body in order to inflict damage on the foes. Naturally, the purpose is to infect as many people as possible and try to keep your head whole in the process.
Once an enemy is turned, he automatically joins your side and you can use these undead comrades to coordinate your attacks. Thus, the other zombies can be very useful and act as moving bullet shields, allowing you to get closer to your targets without getting killed in the process. Moreover, you can issue some basic commands to your troops, in case you need them to attack someone in particular.
Despite the rather short experience, Stubbs the Zombie can provide you with a few good hours of laughter and action, complete with fascinating landscapes and funny characters. The gameplay is definitely worth it, especially if you are on the lookout for something out of the ordinary.
