A memorable game is one that grabs you by the mind and shakes your thoughts and imagination until you're totally submerged into its story. It’s also one that looks good and is simple to play but still challenges you. Now, add those two and you get Stray Cat Crossing.

Stray Cat Crossing starts off with you, your character, a young lady, who stumbles into a strange place while looking for her cat. With no immediate sight of her pet, she wanders a few more steps through the hallway and is greeted by some unusual characters.

Just as you approach them, it all takes off. After witnessing a very strange and well written piece of dialog, it becomes clear that you’re in trouble but you fail to see how much and of what kind. To be able to leave you will have to help the strangers with a favor. Unfortunately, after you complete it, they want another… and then another and so on until you’re pulling conjoint hearts from dead... well, let’s not spoil the fun.

Each favor you do is in the form of a puzzle that needs to be solved. There are, of course, hints here and there but most of them are subtle and require a keen sense of deduction. Moreover, the rooms in the house are anything but ordinary and things appear, disappear or move when you exit them. The best part about that is that every change adds to the creepy factor of the game.

Stray Cat Crossing isn’t a horror game about sudden scares, gore and brutal crimes. It’s the kind in which the story slowly progresses and stacks layer upon layer of mystery and unsettling moments. To help this along, the game features some pretty great pixel graphics that are masterfully blended to create an appealing world.

There are plenty of details to every room and you will have to find each one if you are to advance deep into the plot. Apart from that, the soundtrack is the right kind of ‘annoying’ and the audio effects are subtle and well placed.

After a few minutes of playing, you’ll notice some aspects that were inspired from famous stories, such as Pan’s Labyrinth, but the game does not lose any of its eerie charm and uniqueness.

Stray Cat Crossing is a game that’s strange from the very beginning, and you know that every time you accept to do a new favor things just get worse. It’s actually what will keep you going. Plus, you can’t help but be curious as to what’s the deal with the dog that has a human baby head.
