Story of Alexia Demo

You do not always need a believable world to make people care about the fictional characters living in it, as long as the writing is good and the events that transpire make sense. Hence, you can let your imagination run wild and try to dazzle the audience with crazy concepts, while struggling to keep the story and the characters pleasant at the same time.

Story of Alexia is a 2D role-playing game that plays very much like a platformer instead, which means that you have both real-time combat and tricky sections that require good coordination and fast reflexes. However, most of the basic RPG elements are still there, including skills and a decent story that evolves from one event to the other, while the main character grows as well.

Speaking of which, the title pretty much gives away the story, although not completely. In truth, this is indeed the story of a girl by the name of Alexia, but she is a tad more complicated than just that. In fact, she is a half-breed between a human and a race known as Youkai, which provides her with special abilities. As far as the plot is concerned, there is a war about to start between the two races and Alexia tries her best to stop it.

Because the game features so many conflicting mechanics, it wouldn’t be a mistake to assume that it can get confusing sometimes. However, the two genres are kept separate most of the time, and you can actually pretend that this is a regular platformer, given the similar gameplay. However, the few RPG elements make the experience that much more interesting, because you can see the character improve over time.

As far as the visual quality is concerned, the 2D engine is not bad at all, especially since the game features very intricate backgrounds and top-notch level design. It’s a pleasure to explore the environments and the game world is filled with teleporters to various parts of the realm, where you can find new and exciting places.

When it’s all said and done, Story of Alexia is a game worth playing, although it is not finished yet, and there doesn’t seem to be a release date in sight. However, the experience is pleasant and you can at least hope for more progress.
