It’s not difficult to get the hang of a shoot 'em up, especially if you have any experience with the genre. In fact, most of them are more or less the same when it comes to gameplay mechanics and look, but they also differ in key aspects. Hence, your skills are always put to the test, especially after the introductory levels and during the boss fights.

Stellar Interface is a retro shoot ‘em up in which your goal is to destroy everything that gets in your way and survive for as long as possible. The levels and the entire game universe are randomly generated, which means that replayability is through the roof. Not only that, but even the power-ups and the upgrades you pick up along the way are random as well.

There’s not much of a story to talk about yet, although the game is still a demo at the moment, which means that it may feature some kind of intrigue sometime in the future. Hence, you start by choosing a spaceship from three possible options, each one of which has specific strengths and weaknesses. After that, you also get to equip them with the desired weapon systems.

As mentioned before, the ship upgrades you receive along the way are also randomly generated, which means that you won’t get bored during the gameplay. These upgrades affect your damage, rate of fire and ship speed, and you can install them in special sockets that look a bit like a skill tree or sorts. Hence, you can actually choose what kind of spaceship you want to create.

As for the graphics, the retro visual style goes great with the atmosphere and the gameplay, but it must be mentioned that the backgrounds are a tad too boring most of the time. Hence, it’s all black with a couple of distant stars, plus the enemy ships that make an appearance every now and again. Speaking of which, the battles are a tad boring, which is not great news for a shoot ‘em up.

In the end, Stellar Interface is quite interesting, especially thanks to the randomly generated levels and upgrades, However, the actual gameplay is a bit too boring, not to mention slow and repetitive sometimes.
