Spheres - One Day In The Mountains Demo

Exploring other planets is certainly something almost every human out there wants, and the technology is maybe not that far away. Granted, there’s still a long way to go, but when you compare it to how it was a century ago, then it shouldn’t be a surprise if we manage to achieve such a feat much earlier. On the other hand, someone has to go there first, and it probably won’t be very pleasant.

Spheres - One Day In The Mountains is a first-person exploration game that allows you to see what it would be like to live and survive in a different world, as a different kind of creature. Not much detail is provided at the moment regarding what you are or what your purpose is, but maybe there’s no need for that at all, at least if the experience is fun enough without a rich background story.

As such, you start on a base and you descend on what appears to be some kind of asteroid. This asteroid is populated by weird creatures and strange energy spheres, as well as a few constructions that have mysterious roles. Your task is to explore everything and maybe figure out how everything works, although that doesn’t seem to be a mandatory requirement.

Movement is quite simple and intuitive, especially since you can jump quite high and dash whenever your feet touch solid ground. You don’t appear to have any problem falling from great heights or lasting for minutes on end under water, so you do not have to worry about dying or similar annoyances. On the other hand, it would appear that you have to compete with other creatures that try to survive in this environment.

As for the graphics, the game looks surprisingly well, especially when you consider the small development team. The level design is the main attraction, because the worlds truly feel alien and spooky sometimes, even if there are no monsters or anything of the sort. Moreover, the post-processing effects make everything look even better, especially when you consider the fact that there are different seasons and weather conditions.

In the end, Spheres - One Day In The Mountains is obviously a bit rough at the moment, but it has the potential to turn into something a lot better in the future. So far, the idea and the setting are brilliant, which is why we can only hope that the developer keeps doing good work until the end.
