Space Colony

Space may be the final frontier, but we already have countless books, movies and video games that toyed with the idea of human colonies on other planets, aliens and advanced technology. However, beside the technological revolutions that are required in order for humans to settle on a different world, the simple task of establishing a colony can be quite daunting in itself, as pictured by the game at hand.

Space Colony is a sim game that emulates titles like Civilizations or The Sims, with the difference being that it takes place in space and there are some very different mechanics at work in regard to that. Beside that, it is worth noting the fact that the tasks you must accomplish in order for the colony to advance and settle properly are not all about the machinery itself, but also about how people cooperate with each other in the process.

Hence, whenever you make some changes that affect the population of the colony, you also have to take into consideration the fact that some individuals may not appreciate your decision. Moreover, people also have slightly more personal needs, other than food and entertainment, which means that they do not always play well with others, or they do everything in their power to get closer to the ones they like.

The characters are basically the core mechanic of the game, since they dictate how the situation evolves and how fast you are able to settle the colony. Thus, every character that's part of the crew has a specific personality and a unique set of skills, such as plant gathering, engineering or fitness. Because of this, you must learn how to handle their interactions and reach a balance in the community.

Graphic-wise, the game features some very nice models and special effects, while the camera rests in a classic and comfortable top-view position, to provide you with a constant overview on the situation. Every character has been closely modeled to be as detailed as possible, as have the different objects that can be built or admired throughout the game.

Despite the fact that Space Colony may not have invented any revolutionary mechanics to spice up the gameplay, the original idea behind should provide you with enough incentive enough to give it a try, especially since it is much more complicated than it appears to be.
