Sound of Drop - fall into poison Demo

Urban legends are a common thing all over the world and they usually concern already creepy places, such as hospitals, insane asylums or prisons. They also have a tendency to involve the disturbed spirits of people who happened to die in the said places, preferably by being tortured beforehand to make matters extra disturbing and uncomfortable.

Sound of Drop - fall into poison is a visual novel game with a few horror elements as well, which is rather unusual for the genre, especially if you have gotten used to the sight of pink dresses and sparkly eyes. However, don’t expect anything along the lines of Silent Hill either, because the atmosphere gets pretty cheerful every once in a while as well, if only to make the experience that much weirder.

Plot-wise, everything revolves around a girl by the name of Mayu, who has a few issues regarding the disappearance of her sister a long time ago. The city’s aquarium also happens to be a magnet for horror stories, because people talk about a room that’s supposedly filled with awful creatures. As Mayu and one of her friends decide to investigate the place, things soon get out of control, and the atmosphere becomes darker and darker.

Since visual novel games do not feature too many interactive elements, the most direct way you can influence the story is by choosing one answer over the other during the dialog sequences. Unlike in an RPG, however, these sequences only rarely require your input and they usually just happen automatically, unless you reach an important plot point where your opinion actually matters.

The visual quality is top-notch, and you can tell that the artists took their time to design the environments and the characters. Naturally, everything is static and gets boring relatively quickly, but that’s where the story comes in to distract you. A dynamic soundtrack is part of the equation as well, which oscillates depending on what’s happening on the screen.

When it’s all said and done, Sound of Drop - fall into poison is not bad, but it’s not special either. The horror angle is pretty interesting, but it’s rather difficult to make someone feel anxious or scared when everything moves so slowly. Hence, as long as the final product is at least consistent, this may very well be a decent game.
