Solar 2 is a sandbox game with the entire Universe as a single level. Go from one lonely planet to a massive black hole that triggers a new big bang, all in a single afternoon.

Comparing Solar 2 with anything else is impossible since there is nothing quite like it. It’s an entirely 2D game that takes place in a procedurally generated universe full of missions are given by someone or somewhat. The idea is to grow or to stay the same, depending on what your goal is in this game.

Calling Solar 2 a Universe simulation or even sandbox is a little bit much. First of all, planets and stars don’t move like this through the universe, but the developers must be talking about the underlying physics that’s used in the game. As you will soon find out, everything is about gravity, which can be either a friend or foe.

Solar 2 is basically an open world game in which you can go anywhere and do anything you want. There is no campaign pushing the player forward, although there are missions that you can accomplish. You don’t get anything for completing the tasks, with the exception of some snarky comments from whoever is giving you missions.

The player starts with a planet that has life on it, a few craft that can patrol it, and a shield. You can start to take on missions that are specific to being a planet or you can roam around the universe. If you start to gather asteroids in orbit you can absorb their mass, eventually turning into a small start.

The type of missions for stars are different. Also, like a star you can have planets in orbit, which can also develop life. You can absorb these as well, changing to an even bigger star. This trend can be followed until you get to the black hole stage.

The only things capable of harming you are other bigger black holes, but if you continue this path you eventually make a black hole big enough to start a new Big Bang, and you’re starting from scratch once more.
