A shark, a female viking, a human assassin and a cat, what do they have in common? Hooks, deadly grappling hooks which they hurl at each other in a fight to the death in a variety of 2D worlds.

Skyhook is a good looking 2D platformer in which you have to challenge one or more friends to battles that take you to places from where it’s very easy to fall to your doom. Each of the characters is equipped with a grappling hook that extends quite a lot and is the primary weapon in combat as well as your salvation in a lot of tricky moments.

The game provides a number of arenas to fight it, each one different from the others in both layout and aesthetics. Being a platformer, there will be a lot of jumping, shooting and of course, dodging enemy attacks the best you can. It’s a fast-paced game in which quick thinking and a fast reaction time go hand in hand and really pay off.

Controls are easy to master and you’ll soon be able to move about the arenas with no trouble, charging towards your enemy or retreating to a good vantage point. In terms of gameplay, things in Skyhook are pretty simple. You have a hook to use as a weapon and your goal is to be the last man, woman, fish or cat standing.

The arenas that host the battles are diverse and provide various advantages or disadvantages. In some, it’s easier to fall off, others can be quickly navigated and one even has two floating cannons which you can use to shoot giant cannon balls at the opponents.

On a closing note, Skyhook is a really nice game to have around whenever you feel like spending a few hours with your friends having some good clean fun. It’s still in development but even so it’s very well polished.
