There are multiple types of strategy games you can try nowadays, and they all cater to a specific niche when it comes to theme and gameplay mechanics. Hence, whether you want a modern combat simulation, historic battles or fierce clashes between orcs and elves, there’s something for everyone out there. In fact, there should be multiple games to choose from in most cases.
Shadow Heroes: Vengeance In Flames is a real-time strategy game in which your purpose is to defeat the opposing army as quickly as possible. Unlike most games in the genre, this one is much more fast-paced, and you do not have to worry about controlling each unit. Instead, your main concern is to send as many as possible on the battlefield at the same time, while equipping them with better items along the way.
There’s no resource gathering and no base building, which means that the army can receive your full attention at any time. On top of that, you also have a commander that can help on the battlefield as well, although it’s important to protect him at all costs. There are multiple such commanders to choose from, and they all have different abilities as well.
In case you think the gameplay can get boring and repetitive after a while, you’d be right in most cases, but there’s something special in Shadow Heroes: Vengeance In Flames. Hence, you can change the dynamics almost entirely by equipping the units with special items, which provide you with bonuses against certain defenses/attacks. Not only that, but you can also create new items by combining and disassembling the ones you find.
As for the graphics, the game looks fairly well, although it eats up resources like crazy if you do not tweak the settings a little bit. Even if it may run just fine for a while, things get pretty hairy once the two armies grow in size. The interface is a bit tricky and annoying as well sometimes, especially when it comes to selecting units and casting special abilities.
In the end, Shadow Heroes: Vengeance In Flames is still in its Early Access days, so it’s not as polished as it needs to be yet. However, there’s definitely potential at work, and this could attract quite a crowd once everything is working properly.
