Serious Sam Double D XXL Demo

Serious Sam Double D XXL is a 2D action game developed by Mommy's Best Games and published by Devolver Digital and Croteam.

As you can clearly see, Serious Sam Double D XXL was not developed by Croteam, the creators of the famous franchise. Instead, another studio took the mythos, the character, and the story, and created a completely different experience.

Serious Sam Double D XXL is a game that should not work, at least, no on paper. The truth is that you can expect too much from it, especially if you already took a look at some screenshots. For some weird reason, the game works, and everything falls into place. 2D actions fans and players of the previous Serious Sam games will surely enjoy this new approach.

All the Serious Sam games until this one have been first person shooters that focused on shooting massive numbers of enemies that were spawned in the map. There was a story about Sam, who’s going back in time to kill the evil alien Mental, but that’s not really the focus.

Sam has help from an AI named NETRICSA (NEuro-TRonically Implanted Combat Situation Analyser), which in this game even has a face. Sam is facing the same kind of enemies, but in 2D and with some additions.

One of the features that were present in all Serious Sam games was the number of attacking enemies. There was always dozen going for Sam at any given time, and it looks like they tried to keep this, as much as possible.

The player is also able to use multiple guns at once, use quick save all the time (almost unique for this kind of titles) jump really high, and kill pretty much anything that moves.

The single problem with Serious Sam Double D XXL is the graphics, which seems to be stitched together. The animations are clunky and low quality, but it doesn’t seem to a major issue. The overall quality of the game compensates fully with any small issues that can be noticed by players.

The demo only comes with the first couple of levels, but it’s representative of the full game.
