For some reason, it would appear that ancient civilizations vanished overnight, although that is obviously not the case. Given the fact that people did not really worry about keeping records back in the day, it’s easy to assume that something terrible happened and entire kingdoms just disappeared, when it fact they went away over decades or even centuries.
Secret of the Royal Throne is a hidden object adventure game in which you play the role of a girl by the name of Samantha, whose father is investigating a supposedly lost kingdom somewhere in India. It would appear that the mechanics are a bit too old fashioned, on the other hand, since many of the things gamers have gotten used to lately are missing from Secret of the Royal Throne, which might make it difficult to enjoy for some people.
To begin with, the story revolves around an ancient Indian civilization, which was ruled by thirteen powerful deities. As it happens, an American archaeologist stumbles onto the ruins of this civilizations and figures out that its treasures are still accessible, but evil forces are trying to get to them first. Thus, his daughter Samantha receives the task of reviving the deities and save the kingdom from evil.
Most of your time is spent investigating every scene for useful items, which is not as smooth as in most HOPAs, mainly because the interface is a bit too outdated. It gets even more annoying when you have to use objects in order to solve puzzles, because you have to click and hold to achieve this operation. It’s not a huge bother, but it’s a tad unorthodox, which might put players off.
Thankfully, the graphics are not bad at all, although they suffer from a few signs of old age as well. Even if the game runs in full-HD resolutions, the artwork looks a bit stretched, although it’s not always noticeable. Each item is nicely detailed and quite realistic, on the other hand, except of course in the case of magical artifacts or the like. Not much can be said about the soundtrack, but that’s not very important in this case.
In the end, Secret of the Royal Throne has a few interface troubles and some visual issues, but they can be overlooked if you are in the mood for an exciting adventure. The mystery may be quite silly and unrealistic, but at least it captivates your imagination.
