Few things are better than continuing a story from where you left it and getting a second chance at meeting the same characters, or at least see new places. Video games are great for this, because you are in control of the ones that mold the story and you get a front row seat of the entire thing. Granted, it’s usually better when you can actually see some graphics, but text-based adventures can be just as exciting.
Samurai of Hyuga Book 2 is the second part of the series, and it provides you with the chance to import your character and continue the adventure. Just like the previous episode, there’s nothing but text to keep you entertained, which may be a bit of a bummer for some gamers. On the other hand, those who appreciate a good tale should be more than happy to leave everything to their imagination instead.
As such, this part focuses on your samurai and his or her journey after the events from the first part. In case you cannot import a character or you decide to start with this episode for some reason, you also have the option to create an alter-ego by answering a few questions. After that, almost everything that happens with the story is left up to you.
Whether you want to be a force of good or a purveyor of evil deeds, the game does not force your hand in any way, which is great if you enjoy freedom. Thus, you can choose your reaction to almost every event you are presented with, not to mention the fact that you can also pursue romantic relationships if you wish to do so, and you are not forced to adhere to gender-specific rules either.
To provide you with feedback on your choices, the game keeps track of your responses in a tab called Stats. Here you can see what kind of style your character has settled on throughout the story, although it's always subject to change. Not only that, but certain statistics actually influence your ability to undertake some actions, or even persuade certain characters.
When it’s all said and done, Samurai of Hyuga Book 2 is longer and arguably better than the first part, at least if you enjoy text-based RPGs. It doesn’t have the depth of an actual RPG when it comes to combat, but at least the story is left entirely up to you.
