Salt
Stranded on an island, you need to fend for yourself to survive and make your way to other islands. #Craft weapon #Sail boat #Explore island #Island #Ocean #Explore
You wake up on a tropical island with no clue as to how you got there. The island seems to be deserted and so you start to explore. As you make your way through the trees and over the hills, you find various materials you can use to help you out in your quest for answers.
The world in Salt is procedurally generated which means that you get a seemingly never-ending array of possibilities. You don’t know how many islands there are, how they look, what’s on them and so on, which makes the game all that more appealing if you’re into exploration games that really take you into the unknown.
Each time you start a game everything around you will be different, the resources scattered all over in random places and even the pirate camps spawn in new places so you always have to keep an eye out for danger.
A downside to this method of creating the islands and everything else, is that the graphics aren’t all that fantastic. Sure, the game looks good, the colors are nice, environment details are appealing and the lighting is just great but at times you might wish it would have been a bit better, after all, the concept behind the game is wonderful.
After you start the game you have the natural urge to explore the surroundings in hopes that you can make sense of what happened and what needs to be done next. As you wander around, you start to find logs, plants that can be used to fashion rope and some types of ore.
With each new item type you collect, your crafting possibilities expand and you will be able to make weapons that range from a simple club to a sharp scimitar. You can build campfires to protect yourself from the things that lurk in the night and most importantly, a boat which you can then use to sail to the unexplored islands that you see far in the horizon.
On a closing note, Salt is that type of game which is well suited for people of all ages. Whether you’re a 10 year old or a 30 year old, there’s a good time waiting to be spent with this game. It might not be all that challenging but the constant need to explore even more is always there and it’s what will keep you interested.
