One thing gamers do not have to worry about lately is the consistent stream of platformers, because a lot of them are being released on a regular basis. While not all of them are good, there is the occasional gem every once in awhile, which makes it worth the wait and the effort. In essence, they only need to hit a couple of quality marks in order to be enjoyable, and it’s not that difficult to do so.
Robo's World: The Zarnok Fortress is a game that was funded with Kickstarter a while ago, which means that gamers liked the idea and agreed to pay money in order for the developers to keep working on it. Now, a new demo has been released to show their progress, and it’s about as exciting as you might imagine. Even if this is still an early version of the final product, there’s certainly a glimpse of what’s coming our way.
The first thing you need to know about Robo’s World is the fact that each level is connected somehow with the rest. You move around on the map of the fortress in the direction you wish, at least when there is more than one direction to choose from. The purpose is to sabotage and destroy the Fortress, using everything at your disposal to do so.
Your robot has a hefty arsenal of moves you can employ during the gameplay. Jumping and dashing are the most common of them, but you can also punch, fire lasers, and slide your head inside your metal body for extra protection. The sliding head maneuver can also provide you with a jump boost, which is especially useful when you need to break through a platform and drop lower into the fortress.
There are many gadgets and mechanisms you can activate along the way as well, all of which work together to create a unique environment. Enemies make your life harder too, although the AI seems rather dull and slow at the moment. In the graphics department, the creators must be praised once again, because the level design is extraordinary for a 2D platformer.
In the end, Robo's World: The Zarnok Fortress seems to be developing nicely, and it should be a blast to enjoy in its final form. As long as the creators keep adding content and ironing out small imperfections, the game should be a joy to play when it comes out.
