Riders of Asgard Demo

Riders of Asgard is a Viking BMX game and a pretty good one, no matter how weird that might sound.

There are a lot of BMX games out there, but I’m pretty sure that no one used the Vikings for this type of game. Riders of Asgard is a classic sports game and the fact that the developers are using ancient warriors to ride those bikes is normal.

Riders of Asgard is an indie game, and that might explain the Viking and BMX combination, but after I had played it for a while, I’m no longer wondering why they did it. In fact, I believe they had no choice in the matter and that they should be using other warriors in the future.

Just like other BMX or skateboarding games, Riders of Asgard wants you to get up to speed, and do as many tricks as possible in just two minutes, but here is the catch. This is not a 3D game, but a 2.5D.

This means that you move in two dimensions most of the time, right to left, and you can bring the bike forward into a closer lane when you choose so. The track has multiple lanes, and you can jump from one to another when you have enough speed.

The track is pretty long and it will take players some time to get from one end to another. The goal is not to reach the other side, but to get the most points. Players also need to do tricks while jumping and they need to land safely.

Riders of Asgard is using the Unreal Engine, so they physics system is pretty good. Players really need to nail the landing, or they will crash. In fact, you’re going to crash most of the time at first.

The controls are not great either, so that will contribute to your dying. Riders of Asgard looks OK, and it even has a cartoonish vibe so that you won’t notice the low res textures. The developers are still working on it, so hopefully the quality will improve.
