Riddles of Egypt is a casual puzzle game designed to provide you with an adventure in the fascinating world of the ancient Egypt. Your main goal is to get rid of a great curse that has returned after a few millennia, using a couple of powerful artifacts left behind by the wizards of the time. The game includes a variety of interesting puzzles, as well as hidden object sequences to test your attention to detail.

There’s not much depth to the actual story, since it just runs quietly in the background without too much fuss. You get travel between a few locations as you progress through the plot, including a port, a temple, and the great Sphinx itself. Each one of these locations holds a new array of puzzles and riddles, which must be solved in order to unlock the way further and find the required items.

Although the puzzles are not as complicated as they might be in hardcore adventure games, you still have to put a bit of thought into them if you want to see the ending. You are often required to travel back and forth between locations to use new items, which is a bit of a bother. On the other hand, if you pay attention to every little detail, the puzzles can be solved in a matter of seconds.

As always, the visual quality is more than decent for a game in this category, even if most of the environments are static and you cannot freely explore them. The artwork is sublime, on the other hand, which does wonders for the atmosphere and the general mood. Not much can be said about the soundtrack, but it tries its best to keep you invested in the action, while also not distracting you from the puzzles.

When it’s all said and done, Riddles of Egypt achieves its purpose, which is mainly to provide you with a challenge and help you relax. Hence, the fans of the genre should be more than happy with the game, especially if you do not mind its slow pace and obvious puzzles.
