Subconscious Alpha Demo (formerly Retrograde)
Dive into the subconscious of patience with lost memories and help recover them in this puzzle FPS. #FPS puzzle #Solve puzzle #Recover memory #Puzzle #FPS #Memory
A game in which you use a special sleep chamber to dive into a virtual reality where using a gun that manipulates gravity you can explore the subconscious of a person’s mind with the end goal of retrieving his or her lost memories. That’s the very brief plot to Retrograde, an indie game that’s kind of too good to pass by.
Retrograde starts off just right, in a strange place with an upbeat atmosphere that is provided by the voice of an unknown person. He familiarizes you with the facility, reminds you that what you’re doing is crucially important and after that sends you through a crash course about what you actually have to do.
In short, you will be using the forces of gravity to explore and somewhat manipulate the subconscious of patience who have lost some of their memories. Each memory is created using several pieces or objects which you have to recover from puzzle filled rooms and your job will be done once you’ve collected each one. It doesn’t sound like much but once you start the game and face a few rooms, you quickly get the sense that there’s more to this game that you initially though, and there is.
It’s packed with delightful humor, witty remarks and actual puzzles that are tough enough to spend a few minutes on but not so much so that they remain fun. It’s a well balanced way of doing things.
The gravity gun in Retrograde is not like that in Half-Life 2 although some similarities exist. You will explore and traverse the patient’s fragile mind by opening doors and triggering mechanisms using a series of cubes. These can be picked up and manipulated using a special gun which also dictates which portions of a room have a positive or negative gravitational pull.
It’s a well thought out and implemented mechanic that will at times confuse you, but after all, it is a puzzle game. It would be a shame if confusion was missing.
Retrograde is still in development but even so the demo seems to be glitch free and well built. If you’re looking for a bit of a puzzle challenge that’s very relaxing and amusing, give Retrograde a try.
